The Four Rivers 4-H Home School Club will be meeting on the third Monday of every month beginning September 21,from 2:00 – 3:30 at the McCracken County Extension office on Olivet Church Rd. This club is an all-homeschooler club, and is open to students in grades 4-12 (although high schoolers may prefer the McCracken County 4-H Teen Club, which meets on the second Monday of the month at 5:00 p.m.)
What day and time are you going to meet?
We meet the third Monday of each month at 2:00. Meetings usually last about 1 1/2 hours.
Do I have to live in McCracken County to participate?
No. All counties are welcome; however some of the surrounding counties also offer 4-H homeschooling clubs, and if you live outside McCracken, you may prefer to participate in a club closer to home.
What do we do at club meetings?
We have a short “4-H business” session, led by the student officers, followed by one or two club member talks or demonstrations. Then, have some project time, where we work on projects and activities together. 4-H has dozens of project books the kids can work through: computers, electricity, gardening, home crafts, cooking, sewing, animals both large and small, entomology, geology, weather, wood working … the list goes on and on and on.
We may choose a project book to work through as a group, and the kids can also choose books to do on their own. Finally, we end the meeting with a brief time for refreshments and fellowship.
Are there high school students in your club?
Most years we do have high school students who participate in the home school club. However, there is also a McCracken County Teen Club that teens might also enjoy. 4-H provides wonderful opportunities for high schoolers to learn leadership and community service skills and earn awards. There are many regional and state opportunities at the high school level such as Teen Issues Conference and 4-H Congress. If you’d like information about the Teen Club, the McCracken County 4-H Agents will be able to answer your questions. Just give them a call at 554-9520.
