he McCracken County 4-H Cookettes Culinary Team, comprising of Laurel Head, Rachel Head and Graclyn Largent, competed in the Statewide Kentucky 4-H Culinary Competition held at the Boone County Extension Enrichment Center in Burlington, KY on August 4th. Volunteer leader, Cynthia Turner led this fearless group to a victory. Team members met weekly to increase their knowledge about food preparation skills, nutrition and food safety, leadership skills, and creativity to prepare a serving or plate of food utilizing secret ingredients and then make a presentation. Teams were given secret ingredients comprised of quinoa, eggplant and ginger. The “Cookettes” presented a winning dish including quinoa fried rice which was plated on a bed of lettuce, topped with eggplant nuggets tossed in a sticky sweet Asian glaze garnished with carrots and broccoli. The team is headed to Dallas for the National 4-H Competition at the Texas State Fair in October.
