4-H Speech and Demonstration Contest will be held on March 29th, 2019 at the Murray State University Crisp Center on the Paducah Campus. The contest will consist of youth ages 9-19 as of January 1st, 2019 competing in speeches and or demonstrations. Youth are allowed to participate in both.
Speech topics can range from informative, persuasive, conversational or whatever works for you. This is an opportunity to be brave, stand in front of an audience and have fun! This could be your first time participat-ing in a 4-H event and that is completely acceptable.
We highly encourage youth that have never competed all the way to youth that are on high school speech teams to participate. Youth that are 9-13 years of age are considered Jr. 4-Hers and their time must be be-tween 3-5 minutes in length. No more and no less. If you are 14 years up to 19 years of age you are considered a Sr. 4-Her and your time must be between 5-7 minutes. No more and no less.
If you have an interest in doing a demonstration you are encouraged to do that based upon several categories listed on our site. We even have a team demonstration category that you can do with a friend! For youth that are in high school and really don’t have an interest in doing a speech we also have a category spe-cifically for job interviews. This is a great way to get some experience and learn what types of questions will be asked of you in an interview. So as you can see we have something for everyone at the McCracken County 4-H speech and demonstration contest.
Youth that win the county contest will be eligible to participate in Purchase Area Contest on Thursday, May 2nd. McCracken County will be hosting the contest at the same location. First place winners from this contest are eligible to compete at the State 4-H Communications Day Contest at the University of Kentucky in July.
